Sports Massage Therapy

What is Sports Massage Therapy? Actually, the name already describes its aim; it is designed for athletes and those who are involved in physical activity. It is a very useful form of massage therapy as it increases flexibility, prevents injuries and will help with healing after a sports injury.

Sports Massage Therapy focuses on enhancing the circulation, to increase the tissue elasticity and to reduce muscle tension. Therefore it is a great way to help relieve tight muscles, as muscle tightness can limit flexibility, increase pain and be the cause for future injuries. This form of massage targets specific areas of the body that are in need of healing and/or relief.

At Senzis Sports and Massage Therapy we are trained and qualified to tailor our treatment to different sports and sports injuries. By using a skill set of techniques we will reduce the stress and tension as a result of exercise, increase the endurance, improve performance, reduce the chance of injury, and reduce the recovery time after an injury.

Sports Massage Therapy is also a great way to prevent sore muscles after exercise or an event, the so called DOMS ("Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), and will help to exercise in a more efficient way.

Of course, Sports Massage Therapy is not limited to athletes or those who exercise regularly. This form of therapy is suitable for both athletes and non-athletes and can help with injuries, chronic pain, muscle ache and improvement of range of motion. To obtain the best results, various techniques are used such as: effleurage, kneading, knuckling, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, positional release, muscle energy techniques, petrissage, wringing and mobilisation of joints.
