Swedish Massage

Probably is Swedish Massage the most common form of massage therapy and therefore it is sometimes referred to as classic massage. The main focus for this type of massage is to promote relaxation and relief of tension by loosen up the tight muscles.

Swedish Massage is very beneficial to energise the body and to improve your overall health. It is a great way to relax and unwind from the day-to-day stresses. The techniques used are to gently manipulate the soft tissue of the body and whenever there is an area that needs some extra attention, then this will be addressed with the appropriate techniques.

Receiving a Swedish Massage will even boost the immune system, promotes the circulation of the body, and releases hormones and neurotransmitters that are important for your well-being, such as:

  • Endorphins - helps to relieve pain, to reduce stress, and to improve mood
  • Serotonins - helps to regulate anxiety, to experience happiness, and to improve sleep
    • Lowered levels of serotonin and dopamine have been linked with depression, anxiety and overall fatigue
    • Increased levels of serotonin and dopamine will result in a feeling of emotional well-being and balance
  • Oxytocin's - "the cuddle hormone", promotes a feeling of bonding and plays a role in regulation of emotions and makes you feel warm inside

Have a look at the YouTube video below that explains how your immune system is boosted when you receive a proper massage treatment. It is just an excerpt of an item made by the BBC, visiting the University of Roehampton in London.
